TAKEAVEO, CAMBODIA, On Thursday, March 19, 2026, Saint Paul Institute (SPI) successfully convened a landmark awareness seminar focused on “Online Scams and Human Trafficking.” Held at the institute’s main campus, the event brought together high-level government officials, institutional leadership, educators, and hundreds of students to address two of the most pressing cybersecurity and socio-economic threats facing Cambodian youth today.
To ensure the delivery of expert insights and accurate legal protections, the institute hosted a delegation of distinguished guest speakers from the Ministry of Interior’s National Committee for Counter Trafficking (NCCT):
- H.E. Major General Keo Sovanara, Deputy Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of NCCT
- Major General Ron Sopheakvathana, Director of the Prevention Department of the NCCT General Secretariat
- Major General Sang Romdoah, Deputy Director of the Prevention Department of the NCCT General Secretariat
The venue was filled to capacity with a diverse audience that included Catholic priests, institute directors, faculty members, administrative staff, and tertiary students from Saint Paul Institute. Additionally, high school contingents from both Saint François General and Technical Private High School and Saint François General High School actively participated, ensuring that the critical message reached youth across various educational stages. The seminar’s agenda focused heavily on practical prevention and risk identification, split into two foundational modules: Concepts and Risks of Human Trafficking: An in-depth analysis of modern recruitment tactics, forced labor risks, and the legal indicators of human trafficking within regional and international contexts. Online Scamming: A direct look into digital threat landscapes, including social engineering scams, fraudulent job advertisements, cyberbullying, and online harassment.
Addressing the audience, Dr. Phon Sophal, Director of Saint Paul Institute, delivered a firm message reinforcing the institution’s commitment to student safety and moral integrity. He urged all participants, particularly the youth, to exercise extreme vigilance in their digital interactions and strictly warned against any association with cyber scams, trafficking networks, or illicit drug activities.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A where participants engaged directly with the NCCT officers, seeking advice on digital safety and reporting mechanisms.
