On the 18th and 19th of August 2023, a group of academicians from Saint Paul Institute (SPI), led by Mr. Phon Sophal, director of Saint Paul Institute, embarked on a transformative academic journey, visiting three distinguished universities in Manila, Philippines. The expedition aimed to foster collaboration, exchange knowledge, and gain insights into the unique educational landscapes of Santo Tomas University-UST, Adamson University, and San Beda University.
The academic tour began at Santo Tomas University-UST, one of Asia’s oldest and most famous universities. The university’s rich history and commitment to academic quality were clear when all delegations toured its state-of-the-art facilities, which are located in the center of Manila. Delegations from SPI gained valuable perspectives on innovative teaching methodologies and research practices, as well as hospitality from the Rector of UST. The following destination was San Beda University, where tradition and innovation coexist. San Beda’s dedication to holistic education and character development was visible in a variety of programs and activities. San Beda University’s interactions with educators and administrators, as well as SPI delegates, revealed the university’s emphasis on values-based education, which prepares students not only for academic success but also for responsible and ethical leadership. Adamson University noted for its emphasis on research-driven education and global partnerships, was the penultimate stop on the academic trip with a warm welcome from the rector and other academic staff of Adamson University. The academic group of SPI had the opportunity to tour Adamson University’s new building and see how technology is being used in education.
The tour facilitated networking and collaboration opportunities, fostering possible institutional collaborations and opening doors to joint research projects. The academic visits to Santo Tomas University-UST, Adamson University, and San Beda University were enlightening experiences that provided insight into the vibrant and growing environment of higher education. The SPI delegations left with a wealth of information and a renewed commitment to supporting academic excellence and collaboration at their respective Saint Paul Institute (SPI).
